Another NYT bestseller, this 2025 book also comes recommended by Barack Obama, who called it “a must-read for progressives who want a blueprint for reforming government so it can deliver for working people.” Klein and Thompson make the case that a tangle of regulations, environmental reviews and zoning laws stymies the creation of critical infrastructure, affordable housing, and clean energy.

Looking to understand this whole artificial intelligence thing? This 2026 NPR-recommended book is part biography, part deep-science exploration. It explains the history of AI at the intersection of innovation and capitalism as it tells the story of Demis Hassabis, the British entrepreneur who founded DeepMind in 2010 (it’s now owned by Google.)
