ONME is a nonpartisan election observation organization, supported by the Carter Center, that works to strengthen trust and transparency in New  Mexico’s elections. ONME began observing New Mexico elections in 2024. In 2025 ONME-trained observers monitored poll worker training, logic and accuracy testing, absentee ballot processing, the county canvass certification, early voting, and Election Day voting in 11 municipalities, home to 44% of New Mexicans. If you want to take a peek at their 2025 report draft, visit ONME Preliminary Findings, link below.

In 2026 the Carter Center (TCC) plans to carry out nonpartisan activities to support election integrity in Georgia, Nevada, Michigan, and Montana as well as New Mexico.  TCC began its “Democracy Project” monitoring the post-election audit in Georgia in 2020.

During this event ONME representatives will discuss their work and findings from the most recent municipal elections in November 2025 as well as their plans for observing NM elections in 2026.  Additionally, we are fortunate to have Sarah Cooper, from the Carter Center’s Democracy Project, zooming in for our discussion.
