Sept. 9: The Beginning Comes After the End: Notes on a World of Change by Rebecca Solnit. This book, a 2026 New York Times bestseller, is the perfect kickoff for Book Talk because it’s all about change. “Solnit surveys a world that has changed dramatically since the year 1960. Despite the forces seeking to turn back the clock on history, change is not a possibility; it is an inevitability.”

Oct. 14: Abundance by Ezra Klein and Derek Thompson. Another NYT bestseller, this 2025 book also comes recommended by Barack Obama, who called it “a must-read for progressives who want a blueprint for reforming government so it can deliver for working people.” Klein and Thompson make the case that a tangle of regulations, environmental reviews and zoning laws stymies the creation of critical infrastructure, affordable housing, and clean energy.
