SUMMARY:Walk and Talk: Archeology of the Galisteo Basin and Burnt Corn Pueblo - Registration required
DESCRIPTION:The Galisteo Basin\, south of Santa Fe\, is home to a number of extraordinary ancestral villages once inhabited by the Pueblos of the American Southwest. We will visit Burnt Corn Pueblo\, one of the smaller of these important sites\, which today enjoys protection as part of the Galisteo Basin Archaeological Sites Protection Act. Excavations led by Santa Fe native archaeologist James Snead found that Burnt Corn Pueblo was built around AD 1290\, and\, surprisingly\, burned to the ground less than 20 years later. We will be joined on our 2 to 3-mile hike by David Kozlowski\, the current site steward and SiteWatch coordinator\, as well as Bureau of Land Management staff\, and perhaps other local archaeologists. Come ready for a mild walk/hike full of information about the archaeology of the Galisteo Basin and Burnt Corn\, site preservation\, and land management practices.\nWe will meet at the gated entrance road to the site\, off NM SR 42\, between Highway 14 and the modern village of Galisteo. Bring a sack lunch and water. Car pooling is encouraged. Registration is required.\n\n\n \n \n Burnt Corn Pueblo Walk and Talk November 7\n \n \n InstagramThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Name(Required)\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Email(Required)\n \n Number of guests
